Know your customer
Banks need to thoroughly understand their clients in order to manage the inherent risks in providing banking services to these clients. In doing so, banks perform an important gatekeeper function when it comes to preventing financial and economic crime. This ‘gatekeeper function’ arises from certain statutory provisions enshrined in the Financial Supervision Act (Wft) and the Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing (Prevention) Act (Wwft), among others. An effective Know Your Customer Policy contributes to safety and reliability in trade, the economy and payment transactions. Effective screening and monitoring is beneficial for financial institutions as well, to avoid integrity risks and reputational damage.
BNG Bank performs due diligence investigations on its clients and, for that purpose, is requesting relevant information both from clients and external sources. The identification of institutions and their board members and/or owners is an important pillar of that investigation.
Identification information
BNG Bank is required to identify and verify the legal representatives of its clients. Among other things, we request copies of representatives’ proofs of identity for our investigation of clients.
Within the Netherlands, the following documents will be accepted as valid proofs of identity:
- a passport; or
- a Dutch ID card.
All of the details on this copy must be legible. In due time, our account team will contact you about this.
You can upload the proofs of identity using a secure connection on My BNG Bank (mijn.bngbank.nl). If you do not yet have an account, please contact Customer Service.
